This series is my response to Covid 19 which affects us all in some way at this time. 'Two Metre talismans' continues my interest in symbols from myth, superstition and religion. In many Medieval and Renaissance depictions of the Madonna and Child the infant Jesus can be seen wearing a twig of coral around his neck; coral was believed to be a protective talisman in Ancient Rome and during the Middle Ages. Coral twigs echo the veins, arteries and pathways in our bodies and in this series they represent the respiratory tract. The drawings are 2 metres long and are a literal talisman to protect us; this distance is not a superstition but a scientific fact that can protect us from harm. The medium I'm working with is thermal paper which will fade over time and hopefully so will the virus. The beads I'm using as reference for the drawings are from various beliefs.
